Hey parents! Thanks for stopping by! Last week we talked about real readers vs. fake readers. My goal was to help students know all the things that real readers do in order to get better at reading. It would be great if you could reinforce these habits at home too. You might see some familiar faces giving us examples of real readers below too!

Welcome to Ms. Morlock's Classroom!
I am so excited about this school year. It was so energizing to see some of your faces this week and I can't wait until the first day of school. I would love to have you follow this link and fill out the form about your child. You know them better than anyone! Thank you!

Lots of Learning
Hi Parents!
WOW! We have been learning a lot here in classroom 24B. Here are just a few highlights from the last few days:
On Monday we talked about theme in reading. Here a the chart that helped us learn this information:
You could extend this learning at home by asking your child to identify the theme of the book they are reading. Have them give you evidence from the text that supports their thinking.
Our learning target in math today said, "I can use math talk to help me solve two-step word problems." For the first part of this lesson we made a list of the things that we need to do in order to be stellar at math talk. This gave students a clear expectation of what would need to do in order to be successful at math talk.
Each student copied the chart in their journal and marked an area they are good at (see stars in pictures below) and set a goal of one area they wanted to work on (see check-marks in pictures below) Our math talk was much more productive today because students had a clearer picture of their role.

To the bog we went!
First, I just want to thank you again for sharing your children with me. This week I have observed them showing thoughtfulness toward others by helping their classmates, they even found out what type of candy I like and shared their candy with me. They make me smile.
We had a fantastic time at the bog yesterday. The kids have learned a lot about this treasure here in our backyard. You are welcome to visit the bog anytime you would like. Here is a map to help you get there. I know your child would love to give you a tour.

Here are some pictures from our adventures at the bog yesterday. Thanks for stopping by to check out our learning.

Hi Parents,
Live from Ms. M's classroom...here are a few words from our masterminds:
Austin B. says, "I know how to identify satisfying endings and I can use one in my story. I used advice for my ending."
"I learned how to accurately identify attributes of regular and irregular polygons." Harley shared. "This means that I know what a regular and irregular polygon is. A polygon is a shape that is closed, doesn't have crossed lines and all the lines are straight."
Kaeden tells us, "I know what a character trait is and I can find evidence of them whenever I read. I found evidence of how my character is kind. She kissed the rabbit goodnight shows kindness. It shows she is kind because she hugged the rabbit with all her might."
Sarah reminds us that precision means to do your best work. Oriah says we can do our best if we double check our work. Here is the chart that we used to remind us about precision. One way I would like you to help at home is to make sure that students are using precise language and complete sentences when speaking.
